About Us: Our Beliefs
We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, who was born to redeem a fallen creation through his sacrifice of death on a cross. We believe that Jesus rose from the dead to conquer the evil and suffering in this world, that he went to heaven and that he soon will return to earth to raise up all people who accept his gift and share it with others. We believe the church exists to celebrate God's love, and to sustain us as we strive to continue the work of Christ with the power of the Holy Spirit. We believe that the Holy Bible is the word of God, and we look to it as the final authority for how we practice our faith in daily life.

Sacraments
We celebrate the sacraments of baptism and communion at Fifth Church, in accordance with Reformed tradition. Through baptism, God promises to cleanse us of our sins and give us eternal life. Through communion, or the Lord's Supper, God gives us symbolic nourishment to take up the cross of Jesus Christ in the world.

Our pastor often baptizes infants, children and adults by sprinkling water on them as a visible sign of God's grace, and of the commitment of Fifth Church to nurture that person into spiritual maturity. The Reformed church also practices baptism by immersion or pouring.

We share in the body and blood of Jesus Christ through taking communion in a variety of ways, including individual cups served in the pews and a procession to the Lord's Table, where everyone dips their bread into the wine (or grape juice).
