What happens at Fifth Church?
We all come together to glorify God in worship on Sundays. During the week, we take part in a variety of ministries seeking to share and spread the love of God in celebration of his kingdom. We also gather in small groups to help us each develop our own God-given gifts in pursuit of a mature, vibrant Christian community based on the Biblical model.
Why are there two different worship services?
Having two services allows us to worship in distinctly
different ways. Our 9 a.m. service features hymn-singing and
other traditional forms of worship. Our contemporary 11 a.m. service features more praise songs, dance and drama. We long to glorify God in our worship, and having different styles of worship gives us all a chance to offer a sincere response to God's greatness.
How long do our worship services last?
The 9 a.m. service runs 55-60 minutes, and the 11 a.m. connections service runs
60-65 minutes.
What is the average weekly attendance at worship?
There are 375 households at Fifth Church, with more than 700 confessing members. About 500 of us join in Sunday worship each week.
How does nursery and Sunday school work?
Sunday school for adults and children of all ages takes place during the hour in between our two Sunday morning worship services. Nursery for infants, toddlers and pre-school children runs all morning, during Sunday School and both hours of worship. Childcare also is provided for many mid-week activities.
Where is Fifth Church located?
Fifth Church is at 2012 Griggs St. SE near the corner of Burton and Plymouth in southeast Grand Rapids. Our building sits in a residential neighborhood accessible from Plymouth via Griggs just north of Burton, and accessible from Burton via Hutchinson Street just east of Plymouth.
How long has Fifth Church been in town?
Fifth Church was started in 1886, with the original "church on the hill" constructed at Pleasant Street and Church Place off Grandville Avenue in southwest Grand Rapids. We moved to our current location in 1957.
How can I get involved?
Please come join us in worship on Sundays. There also are many mid-week activities, from women's, men's and children's ministries to small-group Bible studies and social events. New membership classes are held every year to help visitors explore the mission of Fifth Church. Please call 245-9247 to contact staff in the church office for more information.
How can I expect to change?
Growth in Christ. Growth in Community. Great Commission. Great Commandment. These are the "4 GC's," the vision of Fifth Church that guides all of our activities. You can expect to discover your own spiritual gifts with the support of an authentic Christian community.
