Ministries: Worship

 

The people of Fifth Church gather for worship each Sunday morning to offer a wide range of responses to God's creative love including vocal and instrumental music, dance, drama and visual arts. In two morning services, we promote open participation in the glorification of God through these diverse gifts that he has given us.

Worship Services
10 a.m. Sundays (May-Sep)
Combined summer worship

9 a.m. Sundays (Sep-May) - Traditional worship with Biblical preaching, prayer, responsive reading, hymns, organ, handbells, choir and solo musicians.

11:00 a.m. Sundays (Sep-May) - Connections contemporary worship with Biblical preaching, prayer, drama, dance, contemporary praise songs, guitars, keyboards, drums and worship leaders.

6 p.m. Sundays - Evening worship with Biblical expository teaching by pastoral staff in the Fellowship Hall.

Worship Ministries
Position Opening for Director of Music and Worship
Fifth Reformed Church is a congregation with multiple services, contemporary and traditional. While honoring the richness and diversity of our biblically Reformed heritage, we are looking for a person who can assist in moving toward multiplying our ministries and meeting the needs of contemporary culture. This full-time (consideration also given to two part-time positions) position is accountable to the Senior Pastor and seeks a dynamic individual who is able to build teams and has a record of demonstrated effectiveness. The Director of Music and Worship has oversight of , and professional responsibility for, the music and worship activities of the church. Areas of responsibility include assisting in the planning and coordinating of all worship services; planning and supervising performing groups, including choirs and praise teams, instrumentals, dance, bells, and drama; and building and training teams to lead worship in multiple services. Choirs
The Chancel Choir presents choral music at the 9 a.m. Sunday worship service. Rehearsals are Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. The Festival Choir presents cantatas for Christmas and Easter services. Rehearsals are seasonal. Contact: vacant

Elementary school children add to our worship by singing in seasonal programs and special worship services. Rehearsal takes place during regular children's ministries activities on Sunday mornings. Contact: Amy Piersma

Worship Teams
Teams of talented musicians and vocalists guide the 11:00 a.m. connections worship service at Fifth Church. The Connections Team and  Worship Team alternates leading in worship at the 11:00 a.m. service. We also welcome worship contributions from vocalists and instrumentalists willing to share their musical gifts. Contact: vacant

Teenagers at Fifth Church also lead worship, both in the 11:00 a.m. connections service and in occasional youth services. Our Youth Worship Team includes students ages 12-17, and we invite you to join us. Contact: Kyle Vanderzee

 
     
   
     
  Handbells
David and the whole house of Israel celebrated with all their might before the Lord, with songs and with harps, lyres, tambourines, sistrums and cymbals. -II Samuel 6:5

The Jubilation Ringers enhance our 9:00 a.m. Sunday worship service with monthly renditions of handbell music. Rehearsals are at 7:00 p.m. Mondays in the church lounge. Experience is not necessary, though the ability to read music is desired.

Drama
O my people, hear my teaching; listen to the words of my mouth. I will open my mouth in parables, I will utter hidden things, things from of old. -Psalm 78:1-2

Modern-day sketches and dramatic scripture readings performed by the Drama Troupe enable the people of Fifth Church to hear the gospel with new ears. We meet periodically throughout the year.

Dance

People of all ages at Fifth Church add a visual dimension to our Sunday morning worship through dance routines that celebrate our faith. Rehearsals for Illuminations (high school and adults), Reflections (grades six through 12) and Shining Lights (grades two through five) take place on Sundays in the church lounge. We dance in the 11:00 a.m. connections service and occasionally during 9:00 a.m. worship.

Visual Arts and Technical Services
Numerous people support our Sunday morning worship at Fifth Church with sound, lighting and video expertise. Contact: Mark Vogel. We also enhance our worship setting with banners, flowers, artwork and seasonal decorations. Contact: Kim Geyer

Worship Resources
Audio recordings of worship services are available through the church office. We also have a collection of CDs featuring contemporary Christian artists, and video and book resources on topics that include marriage, evangelism, prayer and worship.
